Monitoring on rights of persons with disabilities in Montenegro
Association of Youth With Disabilities of Montenegro in cooperation with Coalition of organizations of persons with disabilities (DPO’s) of Montenegro within global cooperative project “Disability Rights Promotion International” – D.R.P.I. – Regional Center for Eastern Europe, and with support of University York from Toronto (Canada) and Regional Center for South-eastern Europe, is organizing seven day national training for Montenegro- “Monitoring on human rights of persons with disabilities in Montenegro”, with aim to built capacity of persons with disabilities and PWD’s organizations in area of monitoring and respecting human rights of PWD.
Training will be held in Budva, (Bečići) Hotel Queen of Montenegro. The opening ceremony and beginning of training will be on Monday, January 23rd 2012 at 9:00 am.
Monitoring on the rights of persons with disabilities is important to raise awareness about discrimination based on disability and negative influence which it has on lives of persons with disability. Knowing this and encouraging positive actions for fight against discrimination of persons with disability, D. R. P. I. has developed a holistic approach on monitoring of PWD’s rights, with focus on finding facts in three crucial areas:
1. Individual experiences of PWD;
2. Systematic efforts taken to protect and improve the rights of PWD (laws, policies, programs) and
3. The media image and social attitudes regarding disability.
The lecturers will be, among other, international guests from York University, next guests and lecturers from states of region: Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Part of the training participants, and later also the monitors of PWD’s individual experiences in selected municipalities will be 20 persons with disabilities selected by cross disability principle
We are inviting organizations of persons with disabilities and persons with disabilities individual to candidate male and female participants from which will be chosen 20 of them for previous mentioned training and who will later do monitoring of individual experiences.
Monitoring will be paid from project’s funds.

Holistic monitoring of persons with disabilities
Coalition of PWD’s organizations on their meetings in Bar has agreed that the municipalities in Montenegro in which will be conducted the first kind of monitoring: 1. Individual experiences of PWD are: Podgorica as a big city, Bar as smaller city and Bijelo Polje in rural area. At the same meeting Coalition has agreed that the Coordinator of the project “Monitoring on the human rights of persons with disabilities in Montenegro” is Milenko Vojičić and site coordinators for Bijelo Polje Samir Guberinić, for Podgorica Goran Macanović and Nataša Borović for Bar.
